Calmchat

Privacy policy

Last updated 10 October 2026. Applies to the Calmchat extension for Chrome.

The short version. Calmchat has no account, no analytics, no ads and no server of its own. The developer never receives anything about you or what you watch. The word filters run fully inside your browser. Only if you switch on the optional AI check is any chat text sent anywhere, and then it goes straight from your browser to OpenRouter using your own key.

What Calmchat reads

To decide which comments to hide, Calmchat reads the comments shown in the YouTube live chat you have open: the comment text, the author handle and the author channel ID. This happens in your browser's memory while the chat is open. It is not saved and not sent to the developer.

What is stored on your device

All of this is kept in Chrome's local extension storage on your computer. It is not synced to the developer and it is deleted when you remove the extension.

The optional AI check

The AI check is off by default. If you turn it on and add your own OpenRouter key:

Switch the AI check off and nothing is sent again.
